Haywood Spay/Neuter is Haywood County's only low-cost spay/neuter program. 38% of the pet owners using our service receive the surgery for free because they are receiving public assistance. 98% of our clients report household incomes lower than 300% of the Federal poverty standard. Your gifts make it possible to subsidize each surgery by at least $20. Spay/neuter is the only proven way to reduce pet overpopulation in our shelter and reduce the euthanasias paid for by tax dollars.
Our clients would be unable to spay/neuter and in some cases keep their pets if not for our low
cost spay/neuter fees. One client came to us with a small poodle that had a hernia. She could not get into a low cost housing unit unless her dog was neutered. She could not afford the services of a local vet as this condition warranted an extra charge. Going through Haywood Spay/Neuter her dog was neutered for $18 above our low cost rate. She is forever grateful that she is able to keep her pet with her!
Another couple had to wait until they could sign up their pets as they had no transportation. They could afford to take the Haywood Community Transport bus only once a month to come into town. We again stepped in to make sure their animals got fixed. On many occasions our volunteers have picked up and delivered as clients had no transportation of their own.
